Set in San Francisco’s iconic Union Square, the Holiday Ice Rink is the only outdoor ice rink in the City and is one of the Bay Area’s favorite annual holiday traditions.

This iconic landmark will return again, decorated in ornaments and lighting up Union Square throughout the holidays.
Macy’s SF SPCA Holiday Windows
November 22 – December 31
Macy’s beloved SF SPCA Holiday Windows will once again feature live rescue animals, with the goal of the event to help find loving homes for as many pets as possible.
Winter Walk
December 13 – 22
This holiday extravaganza will feature two blocks closed off to vehicles and transformed as a lively pedestrian plaza with food trucks, bar options, Instagrammable moments, local merchants, and live performances.
Winter Walk is sponsored by the San Francisco Office of Economic and Workforce Development, Office of Mayor London N. Breed, Amazon, JP Morgan Chase, and Build Group.
A day in Union Square wouldn’t be complete without a ride on one of San Francisco’s famous cable cars, where, as Tony Bennett aptly sang, ‘To be where little cable cars climb halfway to the stars.’

The First Giant Public Menorah outside of Israel, the Bill Graham Menorah is an annual Chanukah Menorah Lighting marking its 49th year in Union Square.

Pick up an Ornament Trail Guide at Winter Walk (Dec 13 – 22) or on visitunionsquaresf.com and explore the larger-than-life ornaments created by talented local artists, displayed along Powell Street. In addition to the stunning holiday decor, you’ll find blue turf, festive ornaments on light poles, and other seasonal touches. Westin St. Francis Sugar Castle
Now – Early January
Created by Jean-François Houdré, this 12-foot-tall magical castle, inspired by his travels, resembles a French Château. Set in a medieval village, it features grand towers, illuminated windows, and handcrafted homes, a church, bakery, and shops, all surrounded by two trains. Over 4,000 hours have been spent on this intricate work of sugar art, involving techniques like pulling, blowing, shaping, and molding.

Kaiser Permanente invites skaters with little to no experience to The Safeway Holiday Ice Rink in Union Square presented by Kaiser Permanente to learn from professional skate instructors every weekend. Lessons are free (including skate rental) to those who sign up in advance. Space is limited to 50 participants per day. Reservations will be allotted through a lottery system.

Families are invited to this beloved holiday tradition, where they will enjoy a festive afternoon of holiday tea, Dollie + Me crafts, and fun. Hosted by Kit & Sis, the event includes a lively dollie crafting activity, and each child will leave with a goodie bag of year-round doll crafts. Recommended for children ages 4+. Enjoy a hot chocolate bar, Shake Shack custard, a kids’ fashion show, live jazz, Santa-themed activities, and fun for the kids, including face painting by Elsa and a 360-video booth. The event is free and open to the public. Additionally, 100 mystery tote bags will be sold for $25 each, with some containing gift cards worth $25-$50. All proceeds go to Family House. Tenants are encouraged to contribute swag items for the bags to help support this great cause and spread holiday cheer!

Community Giveback Program

Every child deserves the joy of Christmas morning, and the Salvation Army Angel Tree program helps make that happen for thousands each year. Once registered, each child’s wish list is shared with local donors who provide new clothing and toys. Two Angel Trees are located at San Francisco Centre—one near Miniso in the Food Emporium and the other near Hey Hi Toys on Level 2, facing Zara. Each tag includes the child’s first name, gift requests, and instructions for returning unwrapped gifts for your selected angel.
