Leading off San Francisco’s annual Union Square in Bloom event, Tulip Day returns on Saturday, March 9; The public is invited to pick a bouquet of up to eight tulips for themselves or as a gift to a woman who inspires them, a representation of Union Square’s everlasting relevance and tradition

Welcome Autumn: the real San Francisco summer. This is the month when the weather heats up and arts, culture and culinary experiences take center stage, literally. On Saturday, October 14 (1pm – 4pm), Union Square (www.visitunionsquaresf.com) celebrates fall with “Bloom to Harvest”, an afternoon of free music by the legendary Bill Ortiz, in-the-square dancing, food trucks, bar hopping, wine-sipping and even a pumpkin giveaway. Additional music will be provided by the band Rennea y Sus Amigos.

In one month on Saturday, July 8, the heart of downtown San Francisco will reverberate with joyous sounds as The Union Square In Bloom Summer Music Series kicks off.  The free performances, taking place every Saturday, July through mid-October, will run from 1pm - 4pm and beginning in August, every 3rd Thursday from 4:30 - 7:30pm. The new initiative is a collaboration between the Union Square Alliance, San Francisco Recreation and Park Department, and the Office of Economic Workforce Development (OEWD) funded by their SF Live grant.

What’s more fashionable than a spring day? The answer: an original couture creation a la a spring day by local internationally acclaimed designer Vasily Vein to honor this year’s 2nd Annual “Union Square in Bloom” initiative. Created by and spearheaded by the Union Square Alliance (www.visitunionsquaresf.com), “Union Square in Bloom” celebrates the area’s long history of floral creativity and display, including its rich fashion forward traditions. The dress will be unveiled in a special fashion show event on Thursday, May 11 (5pm – 7pm) at the Nieman Marcus Rotunda on Union Square and modeled by Sonya Moldetskaya.
